Sunday's sermon got my greater attention: I had just begun reading the Gospel of John on Friday. Then early Sunday morning Jesus' teaching about the Parable of the Seed/Soil came to mind and how I wanted to talk with my wife about us being either the rocky or thorny soil. So Pastor Brent's God Times review was very timely. Those plant "object lessons" were powerful. And the "lab practical" of going through an actual God-Time was appreciated mentoring.

I was unable to go to church this past weekend, but our friend who visits was able to. She's not "Christian" nor is she "religious" but she does believe that God is out there somewhere.

This past sermon apparently planted a small "seed" in her heart because this past week as she helped with gardening she brought it up and wanted to talk about it.

Thank you for keeping things simple and easily relatable, I'm constantly praying for those seeds to take root in her!

As I was listening to this sermon, my heart jumped, because I had recently heard a different sermon on the same subject. That first sermon ministered to me so much that I wrote a poem about it. So I thought that I would it with you. I hope you enjoy it.

MARK 4
By Rebekah Shipp
August 9, 2007
Inspired by: Dr. Stephen Davey’s sermon “The Sower, The Soil and The Seed”

He is my gardner,
He’s breaking down the hard ground
And pulling out my weeds,
He is diligent in his work
As he plants his seeds.

He wants them to get deep
Down into my soul,
To take root there
So that I can grow.

He is a diligent gardner
He wants me to bear fruit,
See, the seeds are his Word
And the seeds are his truth.

The thorns and the weeds
and the stony ground,
Are wordly desires
And Satan trying to hold me down.

But I am determined
To be a good gardner like he,
So, I will sow his Word
And live for thee!

I will sleep each night
Without fear,
Without worries
And without tears.

For my faith has grown
And I am strong with the Lord,
I will reap what I have sown
Great will be my reward!

Amen!
