Please pray for Hal Hannum and his wife Ginger. Hal is a retired pastor in Houston and he and Ginger are very close friends of our family.

Hal went into the hospital last Tuesday for back surgery and there were some complications. Despite the complications, he appeared to be doing well and recovering until Friday, when they discovered that the medications and food he was supposed to be swallowing were going into his lungs instead of his stomach. Since then, things have not been well. Over the weekend, he went into respiratory arrest, and then respiratory failure, with his heart and kidneys in distress. He improved slightly yesterday when they were able to stabilize his breathing, heart rate, and blood pressure. They were able to do a CAT scan, and discovered that something is pushing his trachea to the side. They believe it is a hematoma, but they aren't sure because they couldn't use dye in the CAT scan due to the other problems he is having. They were planning to do surgery today to find and repair what is pushing his trachea, but due to a storm in Houston which knocked out the power, they had to postpone the surgery until tomorrow. It is now scheduled for 7:15 Wed morning. Hal is currently in critical condition and he will need to be taken off the stabilizing medications in order to do the surgery. Also, the nephrologist is concerned that the surgery may further harm his kidneys.

Sorry for the long explanation, but I believe it is easier to pray if you know more details. Please pray for Hal & Ginger and for his surgeons.

Thank you.

Hal went into surgery this morning. There was a hematoma the size of an orange in his throat that they were able to remove. They found the source of the bleed and were able to cartarize it. They waited to be sure the bleed was stopped and are certain that it is. He will remain on the ventilator at least through today but may come off tomorrow. He is running a fever and his kidney is still a concern but he appears stable at this point and the dr thinks the temp will clear with antibiotics (he has pneumonia, on top of everything else).

Please continue to keep Hal & Ginger in your prayers as the next few days will be critical. Thank you.
