About 8 years ago when I first started coming to BRCC I was told that BRCC was an inter denominational church. Yet lately I've heard several members say it's non denominational....could you clarify this? Thanks Pastor George!

Really, it's all semantics, I suppose. Interdenominational would indicate that it is composed of people from many denominations (Baptists, Lutherans, Catholics, Episcopalians, etc.). Non-denominational says it is not affiliated with any particular denomination. I tend to think that is the more accurate label... well, I suppose it would really not have a label. Have we blended many traditions? Or have we strictly designed what we do to be biblical rather than sectarian? What would you say?

I agree that labeling doesn't matter. I think calling us a Christian church is the simplest. I guess what I've always liked is that BRCC boiled it down to the simple biblical truths. I believe denominations have included sectarian beliefs or interpretations that ultimately fuel their doctrines. For me personally, it's been the muddled doctrine that always confuses me. And evidently others as you see SO many off shoots of the denominations as they raise issues concerning certain doctrinal stances.

I guess when I embraced the idea of interdenominational it was the fusion of denominations where members were rooted by the biblical truths that are the backbone of BRCC, yet a certain amount of freedom to allow individuals to embrace doctrinal beliefs that did not conflict with the biblical truths. The church leadership however was not going to endorse a set of "doctrinal" beliefs.

I appreciate your response...I just want to be better equipped to respond to the question when posed by friends/seekers.

Well...

Looked them up.

Nondemoninational:
Not restricted to or associated with a religious denomination.

Interdenominational:
occurring between, involving, or common to different religious denominations.

Denomination:
a religious group, usually including many local churches, often larger than a sect: i.e., the Lutheran denomination.

So going by those, I'd have to say we're nondenominational... but it's splitting hairs either way. Even with 20 years as a linguist in the Air Force, this one is just so close.

Let's just say we're the church that rocks!!
