I was wondering where I may find what the bible says on worrying or about anxiety. I do not know if my upbringing caused me to become a very tense, nervous adult. While things were difficult, obstables were finally overcome. And, no matter the circumstance, I grew to know of our Father's love. Presently, I suffer from RLS. Sounds like a bogus thing, but it is sooooo real. Restless Leg Syndrome has to be one of the most frustrating things I deal with almost daily. Many a night, RLS keeps me from getting a good night's sleep. While, I have calmed down panic attacks; the phrase, "Peace be with you" can, at times bring tears to my eyes. I know worrying, anxiety is not from our Lord. I just want to deal with this whole, worrying, anxiety, nervousness thing more postively. Thanks in advance.

The Bible is filled with many promises and commands concerning anxiety. Some of my favorite verses are about letting all our worry fall on Jesus.

Isaiah 26:3 "You will keep in perfect peace the one whose mind is focused on You."

Psalm 94:19 "When anxiety was great within me, your consolation brought joy to my soul."

1 Peter 5:7 "Cast all your anxiety on him because he cares for you."

Philippians 4:6,7 "Do not be anxious about anything, but in everything, by prayer and petition, with thanksgiving, present your requests to God. And the peace of God, which transcends all understanding, will guard your hearts and your minds in Christ Jesus."

Before I share one of the best passages about worry. let me add that sometimes the anxiety comes from things long buried in your life. We have a Freedom Team that assists individuals in dealing with anxiety-causing strongholds from past hurts. Sometimes you think you have put a problem or conflict behind you... but that's when it can come back to bite you you-know-where! Call the church office and ask to speak to the Pastor on call, and he or she can help set you up with the Freedom Team.

Now here's a favorite of many...

Matthew 6:25-34 "Therefore I tell you, do not worry about your life, what you will eat or drink; or about your body, what you will wear. Is not life more important than food, and the body more important than clothes? Look at the birds of the air; they do not sow or reap or store away in barns, and yet your heavenly Father feeds them. Are you not much more valuable than they? Who of you by worrying can add a single hour to his life? And why do you worry about clothes? See how the lilies of the field grow. They do not labor or spin. Yet I tell you that not even Solomon in all his splendor was dressed like one of these. If that is how God clothes the grass of the field, which is here today and tomorrow is thrown into the fire, will he not much more clothe you, O you of little faith? So do not worry, saying, 'What shall we eat?' or 'What shall we drink?' or 'What shall we wear?' For the pagans run after all these things, and your heavenly Father knows that you need them. But seek first his kingdom and his righteousness, and all these things will be given to you as well. Therefore do not worry about tomorrow, for tomorrow will worry about itself. Each day has enough trouble of its own."

Don't overlook meditating on Psalm 23 and other Psalms. Find a quiet place and give yourself permission to hide there for a time. Don't let the enemy distract you with your own body! God doesn't mind you shaking as long as you are spending time with him. And don't be consumed with the symptom; get to the root of it by undertaking a freedom journey! Please call us!

RLS is treatable and can be physiological. Consult with a doctor who deals with sleep disorder. Lone Star Sleep Lab has helped me with a similar issue. You need to know that RLS is a form of sleep apnea and needs attention.
