Sir, I was very encouraged to see The Cross in the auditorium the weekend prior to July 4. Then it was being painted on stage during the weekend of July 4 with an American themed mural. Then it all together disappeared.

First, why allow The Cross to be desicrated by having it painted on?

Second, why is there no Cross anywhere to be found in our auditorium? It is the symbol of our Savior and we should be glorying it.

Don't get me wrong...I am not saying to worship The Cross as that would be idolatry. But don't you think that if we have so many visitors that come to our church, shouldn't they see what our glory is, and who it was who died on that tree for their sins?

Just my observations...thank you.

The only cross that can be desecrated is the actual cross on which Jesus died, not an artistic representation in a church auditorium. The real cross was desecrated by our sins - murder, rape, robbery, deceitfulness, cursing. But it was redeemed when Jesus painted it red.

One of our artists, who has often given of his time to bless us with his artistic talent, painted a beautiful picture of God's love for our nation at a time we desperately need to remember it. I won't give his name, because he would not want it promoted. He has many works of art displayed around our buildings (some of them in our offices) and has given sacrificially of his time to bless the less fortunate. He personally travelled to Chihuahua Mexico to paint a beautiful mural on the chapel of the orphanage we sponsor. He also reproduced an earlier painting he had done of Christ to be sold and the proceeds donated to the orphanage. He has not only created art with his brush, but with his sacrifice of time and talent. He has not desecrated the cross; he has illustrated the beauty of it with the dedication of his service.

I can point you to a great many churches who prominently display beautiful artistic crosses, many of them ornate and immaculate. But the people who attend those churches, and sadly some of the pastors who teach there, have no commitment to seek out and welcome the very people who need the message of the cross. We may not make the cross part of our decoration, but the cross is the unmistakeable heart of each song we sing and every sentence we teach. Those seeking new life are drawn to it, not only through our worship services, but perhaps more so when they see the cross of Christ lived out daily by the people of BRCC "being the Church." What better picture of the cross can there be?
