Olivia emailed this question:

The Bible tells us, "Believe on the Lord Jesus and you will be saved, along with your entire household."

I have adult children that although they believe in God and His Son, Jesus they have not dedicated their lives to Him. Are they saved as a result of my faith no matter their age? What about grandchildren?

The verse you asked about is Acts 16:31. The context of the passage continues by saying "they shared the word of the Lord with him (the Philippian jailer) and WITH ALL WHO LIVED IN HIS HOUSEHOLD. (v. 32) Then he and everyone in his household were immediately baptized (v. 33) and "he and his entire household rejoiced BECAUSE THEY ALL BELIEVED IN GOD. (v. 34)

So the context of the passage indicated that belief in the gospel is what saved EVERY LAST ONE OF THEM. AS individuals they found salvation through belief.

A person is saved when he/she places her trust in God's promise that his/her sin offering has been paid by the death of Jesus. We come into relationship with God when we turn from our sinful, self-focused life and accept His forgiveness as a free gift. This promise is for ANYONE!
