A male friend, who needs heart surgery and has refused it, telling me and others that "he has nothing to live for, why go thru all that"? I and male friend took him to lunch yesterday, again trying to get him to change his mind about the surgery. Today, I opened an email from him, and he has a website, and describes his soon to be death, which is suicide. This email was written 15 minutes before we picked him up for lunch.
I believe when his website is completed (as his legacy) that he will commit the deed.
He is about 59, lives alone, has no job, no money, a heart condition and not many friends.
He is also manic depressive, a former US Marine, a very good person who says he has a wonderful relationship with God. I intend to reply to his email today and since he quotes Bible passages, I want to be able to find one that states that suicide is the last sin. I can't find it. God is in control...we aren't to decide when we leave this world. I lost one friend to suicide and didn't know of his intentions, and was the last person to see him, and also the one to find him. I never want another friend to do this awful thing. HELP. I've looked at suicide.org. I believe we have some time...his website and thoughts aren't finished.

He will be very angry at me for "interferring", but I MUST!! I'm praying for him..but need help.

I thought the wonderful people of BRCC would give me some advice or a Bible passage relating to suicide, but no one answered my message.

As I must do, I now ask for prayers for this man. No one can help someone who refuses all help...only God. It's now between my friend and God.

I apologize for the delay. We try to keep an eye on the message board, but often we don't get a chance. Your friend is at a very serious juncture in his life. Try to steer him toward this site, since he is web-savvy:

Let me add a note as well... Posts on the message board can be missed. In case of emergency, call the office and ask for a pastor. 523-9085

A note to our "guests":

We cannot follow up on anyone who does not give personal contact information. The only way we can follow up posts is if the "post-er" registers, giving a valid email address and/or phone number. I have been able to help people who are registered users further than a reply.

If anyone needs to be contacted by the church, I recommend that you call as I stated above. Or from the home page, you can click on the "Contact Us" button on the left and leave a message that is processed when it comes in and goes to the person responsible.

Life and death situations should be addressed directly by a phone call or face-to-face. Please call us with a serious need. We have a pastor on call Monday through Friday during office hours and at all weekend services. If you need to post, please register as a user, or email us at gfike@brcc.net or jdegraw@brcc.net.

My suicidal friend has been talked into counseling. Hopefully, he will be helped. He seems to be crying for help or he wouldn't tell some of his friends of his intent. On a positive note, one of his friends is a licensed counselor, who has turned to an agency for help.
Thanks for your replies. Prayers for my friend are ongoing.
