I have wandered away from God several times and always come back. It is so strange that every time I come back to Him and start to get real close to Him, things start going wrong in my life. I know that I am being attacked because Satan does not want me to follow Christ. I am aware of what is going on, so I know how to handle it (or maybe I'm wrong, maybe it is something else that I don't know about). But, I think there are some people out there who are new to it and may get discouraged when things start going wrong when they start to follow Christ. Do you agree? If you haven't already talked about this at a service, maybe you can so people don't get discouraged when they start their walk with Christ.

You have made a good observation: when you are walking along with Satan he doesn't have to do much to keep you in the darkness; but as soon as you step into the light, he goes into "turbo" to trip you up. Discouragement is one of his most effective weapons. Ephesians 6 tells us to "put on the full armor of God" so that we can outlast him. We talk about this in our Baptism Seminar (the next one is Sunday, Nov. 19 at 4 pm in the HUB). We also have a 'First Steps" booklet that teaches about the 5 gifts God gives to new believers. If you are interested, email me at gfike@brcc.net. And lest I forget the most important things: Having a time with God where you read the Bible, pray, and listen for Him is very important. Also developing strong relationships with other believers through the men's or women's ministries and some of our other small group opportunities! STAND STRONG!
