Hey, wanna spread a message and/or get involved? For a long time, I have felt led to share my love of jewelry-making with the Casa Hogar Misercordia Orphanage, a place BRCC sponsors down in Chihuahua, Mexico. I'm currently thinking of gathering beads for them to make their own creations. I always have a few beads left over from most projects, but not enough to do a whole set with. If other beaders/crafters have beads they'd like to donate, we can start collecting them and take a big collection of them down there. Also we need the stringing supplies: plastic string, stretchy bead cord, hemp, leather cord, etc. (Yarn is not good, nor is anything that frays or requires jewelry tools to assemble.)

I've done a bead project with these kids in the past, and they were so excited when allowed to create freely. They were SO proud of their jewelry.  I think it would be great if we can start collecting new and leftover beads for them in any style, any color.  The kids range in ages from about 4 to 16, and there are usually 100 of them there. Beads can be brought to me at church (Sat. nights, most staff people and Welcome Team people know who I am). I might try later to set up a bead jar in the lobby, if I can get permission.

Please pass on this message to your other bead-loving friends.

Michelle,
I have TONS of left over beads that I have no idea what to do with them, or they just don't hold intrest for me like they once did. I can even give you the little organizer trays they come in. My husband and I will be there on Sat., should I just leave them at Guest Services?? Let me know, and I will bring them along. I don't think we will make the trip to the orphanage anytime soon, but both my husband, and I feel the need tug at our heart strings everytime the orphanage is even mentioned. So if this is one way I can help.. I am all for it!

Misty

I am an active bead crafter. I do have many beads that would be great for kid's crafting. Just let me know where to take them to. Or if you wish, you can pick them up where I work. (Lincoln Center, 7800 IH 10 West by Callaghan & I-10) Anything I can do to help. - Lilly (lilly@bmpradio.com)

Thanks for the contributions so far.  The mission team will be leaving early Friday morning, so if anybody has beads to donate, take them by the office Thursday.  Ask for Eva.
