Significant Verse:  13:3-5

What does the verse say?  Jesus knew the Father had given him authority over everything and that he had come from God and would return to God.  So, he got up from the dinner table and washed his disciples' feet.

What is God saying to me?  Jesus knew he was God's Son--God in the flesh.  Jesus knew the Father had given him authority over all the earth and every person in it.  Yet he took that immeasurable authority and performed one of the most menial tasks of his day.  Lord, you turned the whole concept of authority upside down.  Rather than using your authority to get served, you used it to serve others.  Lord, help me to apply this "foot-washing" way of viewing life and my authority.  Lord, I will use whatever authority I have to serve others:  my wife, my kids, my employees, my church, my community.  Lord, show me if I'm misusing my authority in any way.  Help me use my authority to help others.  Thank you for showing us the way of humility and servanthood.  Thank you, Lord.
