Significant Verse: 6:6-9
What does the verse say? When Jesus asked Philip where they could buy food for 5,000 men (plus their families), he was testing Philip and the disciples. Philip believed they needed a fortune. Andrew asserted all they had was some bread and a few fish--not enough. Jesus fed the people until they were all full and they had leftovers.
What is God saying to me? Testing. I don't like being tested. When I'm tested, I can feel anxiety, fear, doubts. Philip focused on what it would take that they didn't have. Andrew focused on what they had, but it was not near enough. Jesus fed them all with leftovers, too. Lord, when you test my faith, you expose the doubts and small thinking and misdirected perspectives. You expose my little view of God. You nudge me to depend on you more. Lord, I do not want to trust in what I have or what I wish I had. Lord, you want me to rely on you and trust in you. I trust you for . . . (I prayed for several areas of my life where I felt like I needed to depend on the Lord).
